A "News Herald" from Prague: in English for the First Time
Only three months have passed since the "constitution" of the editorial team of our news magazine at Charles University, but in a relatively short space of time we have already published six issues of our fortnightly, Forum. With this step, we have advanced a little further into the common territory of European academia, where university magazines are an entirely usual, traditional article. We are only just beginning, and that is why for the time being Forum is printed only in black and white. We have, however, listened to the numerous requests we have received by e-mail, and we now make Forum regularly available on the Internet (see colophon for details). Many of our foreign enquiries have asked about the possibility of an English translation of the magazine, but any kind of an English edition brings with it a small avalanche of problems. At present, we simply don't have the financial resources to pay the additional expenses. The university administration has nonetheless paid attention to your interest in a "news herald" from Charles University, and so we have decided to prepare an English-language digest of the most interesting articles at the end of each semester, which will be issued as a supplement to the regular magazine.
If you like this English-language edition of Forum, please let us know. We would also welcome your ideas about how we could gain a sponsor (or, if you prefer, a Maecenas), who would enable us to produce an English-language edition every fortnight, alongside the Czech...
